THE CREATIVE BLOCK

The theme for the Sunday Doodle Party of this week for the Crafty Bloggers, and proposed by Les Antònies, was  to doodle whatever we wanted, so I wanted to represent something that has happened to all of us one time or another (in my case, many times), the famous creative block.

I don’t remember how many times I have just sat "looking without seeing" at something trying to think of a brilliant creative idea, that simple didn't happen.

When I was a child I thought that both artists and artisans produced great work just by thinking about it and I tried to do the same. A few times I would make something I’d be happy with, but usually it ended up in the bin, with a very frustrated me!!

What a relief I felt when an art teacher said to me once (when I was older) “to create something you have to research the work of many artists and artisans to get inspired and from these, produce your own ideas”. It was as if a load had been taken off me!!

She also said “even though you have many ideas, if you don't act on them, then you will only be imaginative and not creative”. So now I try to turn my ideas into something even though it doesn't always turn out as I had imagined or I end up not finishing it.

With my today’s doodle I wanted to express this “creative block”. I have used a fine paint brush and black ink to this.

And as always, a quote to go with my doodle.

There is no “right” way to make art. The only wrong is in not trying, not doing. Don’t put barriers up that aren’t there — just get to work and make something
