Lately I have been, and still am, very busy collaborating in the lovely 2015 calendar which is now on sale (you can see it here), and what with Christmas coming and everything that needs to be organised, gifts to be prepared, xmas cards to make etc, I’ve still had time to hand paint these very exclusive All Stars.
I was asked by a guy to do a very special and unique present for his partner. Something that she wouldn’t expect at all for her Birthday present. And as we all don't need to be given ten different types of jewellery or twenty different types of perfumes (one occasionally is great) on each Birthday or Christmas.
When he asked if it was possible to hand paint a pair of Converses with loads of drawings and I said yes, he collected images of all those special details, places and experiences they had had together, planned it out and sent them to me. I had no idea what he was going to send but can say that I was rather surprised when I received them, as he wanted me to paint things like the Lion King, Route 66 in USA, Agustina and even Frida Kahlo.
So with all the images ready, I started on them!!
As you can see, the sneakers are orange, so before even starting to paint an image, I had to give at least two coats of white underneath each area where I would then paint it on, as otherwise the orange base colour would change the tone of the colour I'd put over it, especially the light ones.
So to paint these All Stars I used a good brand of acrylic paint with some fabric medium and a fabric black marker. Once finished I gave them two coats of a flexible varnish to help protect the images.

These All Stars are now not only unique but very special to someone who will wear them. I’ve been told that she was very surprised and loved them and I’m really happy that I’m able to give pleasure with my work.
