FLOWERS MAKING ART BY IKEBANA

For  the Sunday Doodle Party of this week, Les Antònies have proposed to the Crafty Bloggers to do a doodle on the art of Ikebana.

And what is Ikebana you might ask? The word Ikebana means “giving life to flowers” and it is a Japanese art, the art of flower arrangements, where not only flowers are used, but also leaves and stems.

This art has existed for over seven centuries and it started as part of flower offerings to Buddha, which was originally done by priests. As time passed, schools arose where teachers taught the techniques and expressive skills for this flower arrangement art and where it usually takes from three to five year to acquire these abilities.

My Ikebana is a “Nageire” which consists of plants groupings loosely to form a triangle and I have done it in watercolours.

And to go with it, a quote…

"In Ikebana, the flowers are imbued with a human meaning. They are no longer the flowers of the meadow or the flower shop...the result is an expression of the Ikebana artist."

Have a nice Sunday!!
